The Daylesford Country Brocante

I have to admit… “we don’t do fairs”.

When I first started in this joyful adventure of a lifetime dealing in paintings, I earnestly plunged into doing every jolly fair under the sun. Newark, Ardingly, Kensington Town Hall, stalls at Portobello Road and the usual other offerings that regularly came up…

Fairs are a brilliant way of getting ones stock ‘out there’….meeting new clients, old friends and generally having a good old day or two out.

About ten or so years ago though, we stopped doing them. I think I had just done Newark… half my stock got soaking wet and muddy, some canvases gained holes and scuffs, frames got damaged and I vowed it would be the very last time!

Then Daylesford’s reared its beautiful head.

Daylesford’s is a little slice of peace and tranquility, near Stow-on-the-Wold. It is an oasis of calm and serenity. They charge a lot of money for such pleasures - but one just doesn’t seem to mind, blush or holdback. It’s a bit like the 15 euro espresso in the Piazza San Marco in Venice (or is it now 20e?)….just sit back and enjoy the view.

The lovely ladies at the Country Brocante, who organise the fair, very cleverly came up with the idea of teaming up with Daylesford’s as the perfect venue for their Autumn Brocante and we were delighted to break the exception and join them for the day, on Saturday 21st September.

The Country Brocante fairs are a delight to behold showcasing a variety of vintage, decorative and beautiful homeware. Do have a peep at their website as they have a shop in Surrey and other fairs during the year.

On the day, the sun was beaming, the crowds were aplenty and for the whole day every one seemed blissfully happy. The various stall holders had obviously been saving up a stunning array of stock to bring and showcase and by the end of the day there was barely a car leaving that did not look crammed with new and old goodies for their home.

And yes… we did leave with a few extra holes gained in canvases, some scuffs and knocks to frames….but we also left with smiles on our faces, met some super new friends and loved every minute. Well done Country Brocante team and Daylesford’s …you did it.

See you next year!
