Description
A large French abstract oil painting, circa 2000, composed in a rich palette of deep blue, gold, black and warm ochre. The composition has the feel of an abstracted cityscape or architectural interior, with layered blocks, window-like forms and passages of textured paint creating depth and movement across the canvas. The golden tones catch the light beautifully, giving the work a strong surface quality without becoming overly bright.
At 24 x 36 inches, this is a confident scale for a sitting room, dining room, hallway, study or above a console or sideboard. The blue and gold palette would sit particularly well with natural wood, darker painted walls, linen, brass, stone, leather or more pared-back contemporary interiors where a warmer abstract painting can add depth and atmosphere.
This is one of three paintings held by the gallery by this unknown French artist, giving it a little added intrigue as part of a small group of related works. Its appeal lies in the balance between structure and looseness, with the composition suggesting architecture, light and shadow while remaining open enough to feel personal and atmospheric.
