The artist has perfectly captured the ‘close of day’ moment as the evening light fades and the Highland cattle enjoy their last drink from the cool loch’s waters. Alfred Fontville De Breanski (1877 – 1945). Landscape painter and son of Alfred De Breanski Snr, the well known Victorian artist. Painted highland scenes in a style similar to that of his fathers. He often painted mountainous landscapes of Scotland and Wales focusing in particular on the effects of lighting. His work is not to be confused with that of his father as his paintings are usually signed A.F.De Breanski Jun or Fontville. He depicted scenery more accurately than his father as evidenced by the many cards he illustrated. He exhibited several works at the Royal Academy, Royal Society of British Artists and at the Suffolk Street, Liverpool. Among these were the “Cottage Garden” (1907, R.A.) and “Summer” (1912, R.A.)
