Description
A bold French Cubist abstract painting by Roger Herson, signed lower right, with a strong graphic composition in red, coral, black, white and blue. The work shows a stylised abstract figure, constructed through angular forms, patterned surfaces and sharp linear detail. Its influence from Cubism and modern French abstraction is clear, with echoes of Picasso, Braque and Léger in the flattened structure, rhythmic outlines and expressive use of colour.
The vertical format and vivid palette would make this a strong focal point in a hallway, sitting room, bedroom, study or contemporary interior. The red and pink tones bring warmth and confidence, while the black and blue passages give the composition structure and balance. It would sit especially well in a space with simple furniture, neutral walls, mid-century pieces or a more eclectic collected scheme.
Roger Herson was a French abstract, Cubist and Surrealist painter from Rouen. His work often explored figures, desire, fantasy and humour through a highly personal graphic language. With provenance from the artist’s estate, this painting has the appeal of a distinctive studio piece by a listed French modern artist, well suited to an interior that values colour, individuality and European modernist character.
