Description
A large French contemporary abstract Cubist mixed media painting by Rene Leroy, signed lower right. The composition is built around a pale central field, with layered passages of oil paint, applied material, patterned fabric and collage-like fragments arranged across a soft blue, cream and grey ground. Floral textiles, darker patterned pieces and touches of red, black and ochre give the work rhythm and texture without disturbing its overall lightness.
Framed and measuring 29.5 x 37 inches overall, this is a substantial horizontal work with a calm, airy presence. It would sit well above a sofa, console, sideboard, bed or low cabinet, particularly in a sitting room, bedroom, hallway or creative workspace. The pale palette makes it easy to place within soft neutral interiors, while the mixed media surface brings depth and a more individual, collected feel.
There is a quiet confidence to this piece. It has the softness of a pale abstract painting, but the fabric and material elements give it something more tactile and personal. With studio provenance from western France, it would suit an interior that values texture, restraint and contemporary European character rather than obvious decoration.
