A finely detailed original chromolithograph depicting the celebrated Newfoundland ‘Leo’, published in Cassell’s Illustrated Book of the Dog circa 1880. The noble dog is portrayed standing proudly upon a sandy shoreline with the sea beyond, its powerful frame, abundant coat and calm, intelligent expression captured with exceptional accuracy. The rich colouring and delicate tonal modelling are characteristic of the high-quality chromolithographic printing techniques of the late Victorian period.

Beautifully presented within a burr walnut veneered frame and mounted beneath glass, this decorative sporting print would make an excellent addition to a collection of canine art, Victorian natural history illustrations or country house interiors. The distinguished provenance, having formerly belonged to British businessman Sir Graham Wylie, further enhances its appeal.
