Description
A bold and energetic abstract composition centred around a striking yellow form, set against passages of deep green, soft blue and areas of raw, gestural line. The structure feels loosely architectural, with angular planes and sketched contours suggesting a figure or constructed form without ever settling into something literal.
There is a strong sense of movement through the surface. Paint is applied with confidence, alternating between thicker, textured areas and more open, drawn elements. The contrast between the saturated yellow and the darker surrounding tones gives the piece its immediacy, while the underlying sketchwork keeps it grounded and considered.
This is a painting that carries well in a space. It works particularly well where a room needs a focal point, whether in a sitting room, hallway or above a console, bringing colour without feeling decorative. It sits comfortably within a layered interior, especially alongside mid-century furniture or more minimal settings where the structure of the work can be appreciated.
Rottenberg’s work rarely appears on the market, and pieces from the artist’s estate carry a particular clarity of provenance. As both painter and poet, his work often balances instinct with structure, something that comes through clearly here.
