The painting is signed and has excellent pedigree, having come from the artists estate in France. It depicts the River Seine in Paris, lined with the famous booksellers that have sold from the pavement for decades – ‘bouquinistes’. Born in 1903 in Sedan (Ardennes), Bertrand Mogniat-Duclos (1903-1987) was a painter of genre, figures, nudes, animated landscapes, still-lives, illustrator. He settled early in Paris. He often travelled to Italy, especially to Venice. He also painted Parisian landscapes and some from various French regions. Participated in many shows and group exhibitions in France (including all the major Paris Salons) and abroad, between 1926 and the fifties. Personal exhibitions in the Parisian galleries, including with the famous dealers Bernheim-Jeune, in 1930, 1940, 1948 and until 1955, especially in Galerie Katia Granoff. He worked a lot with Amédée de La Patelliere, his friend. Condition report: The painting is in good and pleasing condition and is framed.
