A finely detailed nineteenth-century chromolithograph depicting the celebrated St. Bernard ‘Abbess’, originally published in Cassell’s Illustrated Book of the Dog. The noble dog is shown standing in profile within an open landscape, the artist carefully capturing the breed’s powerful build, distinctive markings and calm, intelligent expression. Executed using the chromolithographic process, the print displays rich colouring and delicate tonal variation that faithfully reproduces the quality of the original illustration.

Beautifully presented within a burr walnut veneered frame and mounted beneath glass, this decorative sporting print would make an excellent addition to a collection of canine art, Victorian natural history illustrations or country house interiors.
