A fine British marine oil painting attributed to the 19th century English marine artist, Henry Redmore (British, 1820–1887), depicting shipping in choppy seas off Tynemouth, with Tynemouth Priory and Castle visible on the headland beyond.
A sailing ship battles through the waves at the centre of the composition, accompanied by smaller vessels and a rowing boat carrying figures in the foreground. Gulls skim across the water, adding further movement to the lively coastal scene.
The pale expansive sky contrasts beautifully with the darker green-grey sea, while the distinctive architecture of Tynemouth provides an atmospheric backdrop.
A highly decorative 19th-century marine painting with excellent coastal and nautical interest.
