1950’s FRENCH PORTRAIT OF YOUNG LADY SMELLING A RED ROSE – OIL ON PANEL

“The Red Rose” French School, Mid 1900-1999 oil painting on octagonal shaped wooden panel, unframed panel: 25 x 21.25 inches Beautifully spontaneous painting depicting this portrait of a young girl smelling a red rose. The artist was clearly moved by the sitter – and the moment – and felt he (or she!) needed to paint the stylish young lady immediately! The brush strokes are very fluid, as it’s not finished – the work feels like an interrupted working sketch. The strong colours used are lovely. In this unusual shape, it is very decorative and makes ‘quirky’ interior design. Condition Report: The painting has some paint fading to the outer edges and some scuffs and marks, adding to the romantic nature of the piece.
