Anthony Avery (1946-2023) was a brilliant artist, who lived in the English town of Malvern, close to the Welsh border. His sheer range and versatility of expression and handling of paint is breath taking and one of the many reasons his paintings are admired in worldwide collections today. Described as a “painters painter””, his brushwork and use of color was captivating – capturing a spontaneous moment in time often with brilliant use of dappled light, in the traditional Impressionist technique of the earlier masters such as Monet and Renoir.
