The model looks completely at ease whilst posing for this painting. Her hand is softly resting on her face, whilst she closes her eyes conveying comfort in the silence pause. We particularly enjoy the artists use of tissue for her curly hair – wonderful texture. The wide brush strokes on her face detail is a nod to the cubist era. Cubism is an early-20th-century avant-garde art movement that revolutionised European painting and sculpture, and inspired related movements in music, literature and architecture. Cubism has been considered the most influential art movement of the 1900-1999. The work has excellent provenance having come from a large collection of the artists work in Normandy, France.
