Woodcut Engraving of “The Love of all Beauteous Things”, poem by Robert S Bridges (1844-1930, British poet and poet laureate 1913-1930. by Henry Clarence Whaite (British 1895-1978) on thin wove paper, attached on the top edge to backing paper signed in pencil to lower right margin measurements: of the wove sheet 8.75 x 6.5 inches Condition report: In fair condition for such fragile paper, crease to upper right corner, foxing marks around margin although printed image remains clear. This would frame very nicely. Super example of Whaite’s work, and one of several we are currently working on from a small collection of his woodcuts. Henry Clarence Whaite (1895-1978) was a cousin to the first Henry Clarence Whaite (1828-1912), a most respected landscape painter and contemporary of Turner. The later Mr Whaite, whose work we are featuring, studied under Henry Tonks at the Slade School of Fine Art London, and exhibited at the New English Arts Club and the London Group. Whaite became a teacher of art, and also produced his own paintings and engravings. His woodcuttings are considered to be amongst his most accomplished work.
