French Watercolour Breton School Mid 1900-1999 Fishing Fleet

Breton Fishing Fleet by Henri Miloch (1898-1979) signed lower right and dated watercolour painting, with gouache and some graphite on artist’s paper, unframed measurement of frameable image size on the sheet: 18.5 x 14 inches (we have excluded the unpainted margin areas) Charming Breton fishing life painting by the highly regarded painter, Henri Miloch. Signed to the front lower right corner of the image and dated ’64. This work forms part of a collection we currently hold by Miloch. All the other work we have in his collection was from the later part of the 1940’s. Henri Miloch was born in Trieste (Italy) in 1898 but studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris and was a member of the Society of French Artists. His life and work was very much centred in Brittany, in north west France, much of his work portrays Breton maritime life in the various ports, and local town observations, especially in the Concarneau area where he worked and exhibited for much of his artistic career. From 1959 he also had a workshop in Tours (Val de Loire). condition report: The image is in very good order with no damage and strong colour. Edges of sheet show unpainted margins which display pale foxing marks but there is no foxing to the image. No tears or folds. This one is on stiffer artist’s paper than others in our collection by this artist.
