Artist/ School: Raymond Besse (French 1899-1969)
Born December 26, 1899 in Niort in Deux-Sèvres, died March 5, 1969 in Candé-sur-Beuvron in the Loir-et-Cher). Raymond Besse arrived in Paris in 1916. He participated for the first time in the Salon des Independants in 1923. He then participated in many other exhibitions, including the Salon d’automne. He has many times represented the northern suburbs of Paris, Saint-Ouen, Montmartre and Clichy because he liked to paint the area. His paintings are testimonies of life in working-class neighborhoods during the first half of the 20th century. Raymond Besse has also produced many works on the themes of Normandy and the Loire Valley. It is in Loir-et-Cher that he spent his last years and died in 1969.
