“Snowdon from Siabod”, Impressionist Landscape, Original Oil Painting, Signed By Welsh artist Wilfred Colclough, 1900-1999 Signed and dated ’79 by the artist on the lower left hand corner Titled verso Oil painting on board, unframed Board size: 16 x 20 inches Fabulous scenic view of Snowdon, the highest mountain in Wales. It is located in Snowdonia National Park, in Gwynedd. It is the busiest mountain in the United Kingdom and the third most visited attraction in Wales, with 582,000 people visiting annually. It is designated as a national nature reserve for its rare flora and fauna. The dark heathy colours make this view feel quite weathered, and one that looks like an impressive hike for ramblers to conquer. Please note, the title and original price is included on the back of this painting, when £60 would have been enough for a little Mini (small economy car)! The artist Colclough lived in Stockport and was Art Master at Stockport School from 1938 to 1978 (with a break for war time military service). There is little other biographical information however he was a skilled artist who specialised in mountain landscapes. His views of Snowdonia, the Highlands, the Lake District and the Peak District all have a wonderful mystical quality with ancient rocky peaks, swirling mists, and drifting clouds.
