Description
A large French contemporary abstract Cubist oil painting by R. Leroy, worked in a strong red palette with passages of pink, cream, taupe, white and grey. The composition appears to suggest a fragmented figure or torso, built from broad interlocking shapes and softened geometric forms. The surface is painterly and tactile, with visible texture giving the red ground depth rather than flatness.
Unframed and measuring 32 x 23.5 inches, the painting has a strong vertical presence and would work well in a hallway, sitting room, bedroom, dining space or studio. Its red palette gives it warmth and impact, particularly against plaster walls, pale neutrals, dark wood, linen, leather or more restrained contemporary interiors. It is a piece that can hold a wall without needing an elaborate frame.
There is a confident simplicity to this work. The reduced palette and fractured form give it a bold modern character, but the softer pinks and creams keep it from feeling harsh. With provenance from Leroy’s studio in western France, it sits well within a collected interior that values colour, abstraction and a distinctly European sense of composition.
