Description
A large signed French surrealist oil painting by Francine Braniard, titled La Source. The composition brings together a group of female fantasy figures, their faces and hair emerging through a dense, dreamlike surface of colour and movement. Braniard works in a rich palette of gold, green, red, blue and violet, with expressive brushwork and layered detail giving the painting a theatrical, almost mythological atmosphere.

Framed at 40 x 29.5 inches, this is a substantial vertical painting with strong decorative presence. It would sit well in a sitting room, hallway, bedroom, dining room or creative interior where a more imaginative focal point is needed. The warm tones and flowing forms would work particularly well with antique furniture, dark wood, velvet, patterned textiles, painted walls or interiors that mix traditional pieces with more unusual modern art.

There is a distinctive sense of personal symbolism in Braniard’s work. The figures feel part portrait, part dream image, giving the painting more depth than a straightforward decorative scene. With its Paris collection provenance, signed surface and titled exhibition label, it is a strong example of her highly individual approach to French contemporary surrealism.
