Description
A charming Welsh mountain landscape attributed to F. H. Henshaw (British, early 20th century), depicting Moel Siabod in North Wales with figures and pack animals travelling along a mountain road beside a river. The dramatic peak rises above the valley, while warm sunlight illuminates the rolling hills and rocky foreground, creating a beautifully balanced and atmospheric composition.

Executed with confident brushwork and an accomplished understanding of light and perspective, the artist captures the rugged beauty of Snowdonia with remarkable sensitivity. The small figures and animals provide scale and narrative, drawing the viewer through the valley towards the imposing mountain beyond. Rich greens, earthy browns and soft blue-grey tones combine to evoke the tranquillity and grandeur of the Welsh landscape.

The reverse retains its original exhibition label identifying the painting as Moel Siabod, North Wales, with figures and animals on a road near a river, and recording its exhibition at Wolverhampton in 1927. The panel also retains the original John King, Dealer in Works of Art, Liverpool label, together with additional historic labels and inscriptions, providing an excellent record of the painting’s provenance and exhibition history.

A fine example of early twentieth-century British landscape painting, this work would make an excellent addition to any collection of Welsh landscapes, exhibition pictures or traditional country house interiors.
