Description
A signed French contemporary abstract Cubist oil painting by Rene Leroy, depicting a group of stylised figures set against a soft green ground. The composition is built from interlocking forms, dark outlines and blocks of muted colour, with ochre, orange, blue, cream and deep green moving across the figures. There is a strong graphic structure to the painting, but the surface remains painterly and expressive.
Framed and measuring 26.5 x 22.5 inches overall, the work has a useful vertical format and enough presence to hold a wall without feeling oversized. It would sit well in a hallway, sitting room, study, bedroom or creative workspace, particularly where a more modern French painting is needed with warmth and character. The green ground and earthy accent colours would work naturally with timber, linen, leather, plaster walls or layered contemporary interiors.
There is an appealing tension between figuration and abstraction here. The figures are suggested rather than fully described, giving the painting a slightly mysterious quality while keeping the composition controlled. With studio provenance from western France, it is a distinctive example of Leroy’s modern abstract work and would suit an interior with a collected, individual eye.
