Description
A striking French surrealist abstract oil painting by Josyne Gallet, signed and dated 1972. Titled Floating Figures, the composition shows two softly defined figures suspended within a hazy field of colour, with warm yellows, reds and oranges moving into deeper passages of violet, blue and black. The forms are dreamlike rather than literal, giving the painting a strong 1970s surrealist quality with elements of abstraction and figurative painting working together.
At 32 x 45.75 inches, this is a large and atmospheric work that would bring depth and colour to a sitting room, bedroom, hallway or more contemporary open-plan space. The palette has real warmth, but the darker lower tones keep it grounded, making it easier to place than a brighter abstract might first suggest. Unframed, it has a clean, direct presence that would suit both a simple modern hang and a more layered European interior.
The appeal of the painting lies in its balance of softness and intensity. It has the visual confidence of 1970s French abstraction, while the floating figures give it a more personal, slightly mysterious character. A piece like this works well in an interior that does not feel over-styled, adding colour, atmosphere and a sense of individual taste.
